The University of Auckland is a public research university based in Auckland, New Zealand. It is the largest, most comprehensive and highest-ranked university in New Zealand and consistently places among the top 100 universities in the QS World University Rankings. The institution was established in 1883 as a constituent college of the University of New Zealand. Originally it was housed in a disused courthouse. Today, the University of Auckland is New Zealand's largest university by enrolment, hosting about 40,000 students on five Auckland campuses. The City Campus, in the Auckland CBD, has the bulk of the students and faculties. There are eight faculties, including a law school, as well as three associated research institutes.

The University of Auckland has 7 campuses - City Campus, located in the city center, the closest distance to Auckland University of Technology is just across the street. Tamaki Campus, located in Glen Innes, East District, mainly in sports science, psychology, rehabilitation and brewing science, sports science and fitness outdoor is a cricket field, opposite the main campus. Grafton campus, only a 5-minute drive from the City campus, is the medical school and ophthalmology school, opposite Auckland Hospital. Epsom campus, located in central and southern Auckland, it is mainly dominated by the Department of Education. It was formerly the Independent Education College and the Newmarket Campus. It is located in the central part of Auckland. It is mainly based on engineering. It was formerly a brewery. The Tai Tokerau Campus, located in Whangarei City, is mainly based on the Department of Education and practice classrooms. Manukau campus, located in the south of Auckland, is a University of science and technology. It can be regarded as a sister University of Auckland and has a close cooperation relationship. The University of Auckland is the only member of Universitas 21 from New Zealand and the member of Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU)
