Resource from University of Victoria- English Language Centre
The English Language Centre has offered intensive English programs at UVic (University of Victoria) since 1970 and is now one of the largest on-campus English schools in Canada. Each year we welcome students from more than 30 countries to programs from one to three months in length. Many students study English with us for much longer, depending on their needs and goals.
The ELC is located in the Continuing Studies Building, a modern facility where our students attend classes and access a variety of services, support and resources!
As experts in the field of English language training, we are focused on student success and student support. When you register for an ELC (English Language Centre) program, you can be confident that we have every detail of your program covered: classes, activities, accommodation and meals. Our classes will build your English skills and our activities will help you feel at home in a new city and culture.
The UVic English Language Centre is home to a multicultural community of students living, exploring and pursuing their goals in Victoria, Canada. As an ELC student you can look forward to:

In our July and August summer programs, you'll have the unique opportunity of living on a Canadian university campus.
Living in UVic's dormitories is a great experience because everything that you need—classrooms, cafeterias, pubs, a movie theatre, a travel agency and many more facilities—are just a short walk from your room. You’ll be living with your classmates as well as Canadian Cultural Assistants, giving you an opportunity to practice English while learning about many other cultures.
The UVic campus is a 15 minute bus ride to downtown Victoria, making it easy for you to enjoy our beautiful city.
UVic Homestay
Welcome to the University of Victoria's award-winning Homestay Program! We bring international students and Canadian families together to share their cultures with each other. Our staff is dedicated to creating opportunities for Homestay students and Canadian families to develop long-lasting friendships. Homestay is a wonderful experience that you will never forget.
(COVID-19 Notice: Due to COVID-19, the UVic Homestay Program is closed until further notice. We look forward to receiving your application when our Homestay program reopens.)
ACTIVITIES & CULTURAL ASSISTANTS
Outside of your English classes, there’s another side of our programs—the activities! Each program offers a unique activity calendar so you can explore our beautiful city, learn more about Canadian culture and have fun!
ELC activities are coordinated by our caring Cultural Assistants. Our “CAs” are a friendly team of UVic students who want to help you live life to the fullest during your program. They organize events and guide activities, but that’s not all... they bring fun and energy to everything they do to keep our students smiling, safe and loving life! In addition to the fun you’re sure to have with our CAs, talking to them during your activities is a great way to practice “real English” and make Canadian friends!
